Enroll at NICC

Steps for Enrollment

The first step can be the hardest, but you're not alone at Northeast Iowa Community College. Use the steps below to guide you through our admissions process.

Step 1: Submit Your Application for Admission

Complete and submit your application online. Students interested in receiving college credit, but not pursuing a degree from NICC, please review information for non-degree seeking students.

Apply Online

Step 2: Financial Aid and Scholarships

Apply Early! Seventy-nine percent of NICC students received some form of financial aid. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to determine your eligibility for federal and college-based aid. Applying for scholarships can significantly reduce your education costs.

Step 3: Submit Your Transcripts

Contact your high school or high school equivalency diploma (HSED) testing center and all colleges you have previously attended to request an official transcript be sent to the Admissions Office.

Step 4: Admissions Placement Assessment

The admissions placement assessment determines proficiency within reading, writing and mathematics to ensure appropriate course placement and registration. Acceptable placement assessments include ACCUPLACER®, ACT®, ACT Compass®, or ALEKS. Assessment scores are valid for three years from the test date. Consideration of an assessment waiver is given to students who submit acceptable scores or transcripts of prior college coursework to the Admissions Office for evaluation. Schedule the ACCUPLACER® and ALEKS assessment at an NICC location closest to you. Bring a photo ID and allow up to three hours to complete the assessment.

Step 5: Acceptance and Registration

Once all the admission steps are complete, you will receive an acceptance packet in the mail along with registration information.
